We are seeking an autonomous and proactive Safety Manager to lead work health, safety, and compliance initiatives for a major Metropolitan Roads Project. Based out of the Perth CBD, this role provides critical site safety leadership, contractor assurance, and hazard management across active construction zones and maintenance depots.
This is a brilliant opportunity for a dedicated safety leader who excels at influencing safety behaviours on the ground while ensuring robust compliance with state transport and legislative frameworks.
Site Safety Leadership: Provide highly visible safety leadership across construction and maintenance sites; conduct regular inspections, engage directly with crews/supervisors, and actively promote a proactive, zero-harm culture.
Contractor & Workforce Management: Monitor subcontractor compliance against WHS requirements, participate in pre-start/toolbox meetings, and rigorously review and approve Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), risk assessments, and work packs.
Risk & Hazard Mitigation: Identify and manage critical civil risks associated with live traffic management, heavy plant operations, deep excavations, and complex lifting operations.
Incident Investigation: Lead thorough root-cause investigations into injuries, near-misses, vehicle incidents, and property damage. Track corrective actions through to closure and handle regulatory reporting when required.
Compliance & Assurance: Conduct comprehensive safety audits of project sites and maintenance depots to ensure strict alignment with WHS legislation and transport authority safety standards.
Project Support: Provide expert safety advisory services during the planning, design, and execution phases of construction and operational maintenance activities.
Civil Infrastructure Expertise: Demonstrated experience operating as a Safety Advisor or Safety Manager within civil construction, heavily favouring those with specific exposure to roadworks, road maintenance, or large-scale civil projects.
High-Risk Hazard Competency: Proven capability managing high-risk operational environments, specifically regarding live traffic management, heavy machinery, and excavation safety.
Advanced Investigation Skills: Strong experience leading incident investigations (ICAM or similar root-cause analysis frameworks are highly regarded).
Robust Communication: Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with on-site subcontractors while confidently advising corporate stakeholders and management.
Mandatory Requirements: A valid Western Australian Driver’s License and relevant tertiary/diploma qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS/WHS).
